moving to 6th grade
By Lola

Clip to ScrapBook
Hi Sara, I made the move to 6th grade this year, from an elementary school to a middle school and a modular classroom, after teaching 5th grade for 16 years. It was my choice, although I left my former position because of
2 people. I have had some separation anxiety, but I do like the kids--sort of like the 5th graders at the end of the year. Nice, friendly, yet still impressionable. My new staff has not been extremely welcoming, so I am adjusting to missing old friends. However, I only have 3 preps a day--what a treat!! More teaching less mothering!!! Still looking for new 'tricks' to occupy my students
at this level; new ways and not my old ways to manage their interests and their enthusiasm. So far, so good, although there are times I miss a self contained classroom. Take the leap--change is a good thing.
