Read Alouds
By Elaine

Clip to ScrapBook
Stephanie,
Here's some bad/sad news -- you will NOT be able to find another book that is as good as HOLES!!!!! Of course that's just my personal opinion. After we read it im my class, we judged every other book and author
by it. For example we'd find a book we loved and decide it was really good, but it was not HOLES! Or we'd find an author we loved, but we would all agree that author is great, but he's no Louis Sachar!

Seriously, I've read some by Bill Wallace that my students have loved -- JOURNEY INTO TERROR. Bill Wallace always ends chapters with cliff hangers that make you and your kids

want to read more. Some titles mentioned by a previous poster are among my favorites -- JUST JUICE and BECAUSE OF WINN DIXIE. I recently read RUNNING OUT OF TIME by Haddix to my 5th graders, and we all enjoyed it very much.

Have fun reading aloud. There are a lot of good books and authors out there even if they can never be as great as HOLES and Louis Sachar!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Elaine
