Teaching in the UK
By Leanne

Clip to ScrapBook
Hi, Tess! I did my student teaching in Canada (Ontario) but never actually taught there. I have taught in the Isle of Man and now teach in a British school in the Cayman Islands. We follow the British National Curriculum
and do all the key stage testing. If you want to learn a little more about the British system, go to www.qca.org.uk and follow the links to the National Grid for Learning, National Curriculum online, Schemes of Work etc. Teachers are not very well paid in Britain and there is a great deal of bureaucracy involved in planning for the new Literacy and Numeracy hours, mandatory record-keeping,
inspections, testing etc. In Scotland, though, I believe they've passed a limit on the number of hours teachers work...you might want to try there. If you can stand island life, the Isle of Man is a great place to teach! And the TT races are superb!
