job fairs

I would definitely recommend going - not so much to show an interest, but so that you can practice interviewing and be better prepared when you do start job hunting for real next year. I have found that interviewing is something that everyone seems to do better with practice and I think a job fair would be a perfect place to practice your interviewing skills (especially because you could take this opportunity as more of a learning experience, and not be so nervous about actually getting a job right away as in most cases.) Also, you're right...it would be a great place to start finding out more information about the districts in your area. I would use it as a learning experience for yourself!!
