Interview questions
By Jenny

Clip to ScrapBook
Hi! I just graduated last year and was able to go on a few interviews. Before I went, I searched yahoo.com and typed in "teacher interview questions." That site brought up a lot of good hits. I found a lot of information
on what I would be asked at the interview and what to ask at the interview. A couple of things I learned though...Try to find out a lot about the school you're applying to(I was applying to schools out of state, so this was a little challenging.) For example, if you know that they're really "big on" literacy in that school district, beef up on some literary terms, methods, etc. before
the interview because they'll probably want to know what approach you'd use or what your philosophies are. Also, bring along your portfolio. I found mine a lifesaver when I had trouble coming up with words. I used it to show examples of lessons that I used and it just seemed like a "comfort" thing to fall back on. Also, be prepared for a panel of principals and/or teachers. I wasn't prepared for 10 or 11 people drilling me on my 1st interview, so it was a bit intimidating. The first question is always "tell me about yourself" so be prepared to talk about things. Think about what's important and not so you don't ramble on. I've also been asked what my room set up would be like, what my lesson plans would look like on a daily basis, how I would keep in touch with parents, lots of scenarios, strengths/weaknesses, and hobbies(think back to high school because hobbies often make you more marketable because they can use you for extracirricular activities.)
Most of all, be confident and sound that way. If you don't know about something they're asking, just say that you're not familiar with it and try to relate it to something similar that you know a lot about. Good luck...I hope this helps a little! Sorry it's so long, be sure to write if you have any questions!
