Clip to ScrapBook
It's a good idea to get started now, as many schools will be preparing their "new teacher" list in March & April. Then the rush will be on & you, being the smart cookie that you are, will already have a resume ready to send
out, while classmates will be scrambbling to "whip one together".
Last year when I was in your shoes, I stumbled upon Stonehill College's Career Services web page & I found it very helpful. Get into their home page www.stonehill.edu & do a search for resumes. Using these examples, I put a sample resume together, & sent it to MY university's career services department. They made
suggestions & we worked out a pretty good resume. I then passed it along to a friend who is a principal & got more input/feedback from him.
Check with YOUR college's career services dept.,& your supervising instructor. They should be able to give you a hand getting started. When you have something realistic, ask the principal at the school you're student teaching at to look at it & give you some feed back. He/she REALLY knows what they are looking for in a resume.
Another suggestion might be to contact a local school district's Human Resource Director and ASK what they want to see on a resume for a new teacher. While on the phone, ask them when they'll start looking for new staff, if the local area has a teacher's job fair, etc. If you don't want to work "locally", then contact your "dream" district and ask THEM the same questions.
Good Luck!
