Love to read! By Barb

Congrats to you for inspiring those kids to read!As a kid, and still now as an adult, I LOVED to read. I think I went to the library several times a week as a child, always left with a stack of books and was ready for | more a few days later. I am now a special ed teacher of very low functioning students with autism. There are times where I really wish my students understood the value of a book more...but then my heart soars when I realize they have learned already.... I have one who is just beginning to read and will sit and listen to books on tape and follow along in the book. That's always his first | | choice of activity to do. He chooses that over a computer game even! Another student would sit and listen and look at a book all day if you'd do the same. and another tries to make up her own story as she looks at the pictures. I even have my lowest student seeming to take a random interest in books. Every once in a while, I'll see her pick up a picture book and leaf through the pages, (the books even right side up,) and slowly page through the story. I can only dream of what she's thinking as she does that as she cannot talk, but knowing that she's even looking at the book and not just flapping it is a big triumph for me. :-)Thanks for giving me the chance to share as well!
