Left-Handers By G.M.

Congrats on your break through with the student! I am certain that the student feels even better than you do!I am left handed and have read a lot of the subject. One thing I learned in my research is that when we are | using our predominant hand, we all have the natural tendency to move from the center of our body towards the direction of the hand we write with. So in other words, if a left-handed student draws a line under a word he has just written, let's say his name, he will begin his line at the end of the word and go left. A right-handed student will do the opposite. If you notice, most letters | | in the alphabet face right. For example, when you write a captial L, starting at the top you draw a line downwards and then a line to the right. Some left-handers will have a tendency to draw to the left. Same goes for letter B, F, small h, etc.And too, I remember reading that if you ask a right hander to turn around in a complete circle, that person will most likely turn to the right. A left hander will do the opposite and turn to his left. I did a presentation on left-handedness. I had them write their names and then draw a line under it. All participants favored the direction that corresponded with their handedness. Same went for turn around in a complete circle. Just thought you might be interested. Again, good for you for seeking a solution to that little guy's struggle. By the way, I too, work at a learning center part-time. G.M.
