Thanks for your comments Dawn. Ü
I strongly believe in teaching grammar. How can we expect students to write effectively if they do not know the basics?
Writing plays a very important role in our
State's curriculum and its assessments. 8th grade students in our state take part in an extensive assessment involving Reading, Listening and Writing. In addititon to this ELA assessment, 8th graders have assessments in Science, Social Studies, Math, Technology and Foreign Language. ALL of these involve writing as part of the assessment and therefore I work very hard to prepare my
students for these assessments, especially the ELA, beginning in 6th grade.
The textbook series I use is set up to complete a unit of grammar and then a unit of writing focusing on the grammar concepts of the previous unit. I take great pride in the writing lessons and projects I have created as part of my lessons. Perhaps "Mommy substitute" should try being in my shoes full time and creating some of the things I have done. Again, thanks for your support! Ü
