tummy ache

Just a personal aside on this one - at our house when one of my kids got a stomach ache just as they were to leave for class we called it "school tummy". This helped them know that we understood their stomach really could hurt when they were anticipating a difficult day at school. But because we knew it wasn't catching and there was no real cure, they had to go to school anyway. I've used "school tummy" to describe this type of ache with my first graders too. It lets me acknowledge the feeling without allowing it to go too far.
