nervous about observations
By Carolyn

Clip to ScrapBook
Parents actually make me more nervous than anyone else who comes in. One thing that makes me nervous about parents is that they tend to complain sometimes about you and the class and the way you conduct it. They run to
the principal to complain, and you don't especially like that. I have even heard nightmare stories from others about parents who sit in and take notes, then tell the principal blow-for-blow what was done wrong.

Don't worry. Most parents come in just to see what goes on in the school. They aren't there to criticize you. Smile at them when they come in to break the ice. Keep on teaching

as if they aren't there. I really doubt that your parents will stay very long. Most will sit in for about 20 minutes, then leave. They'll say somethng like they had "fun" and enjoyed their visit. You'll never hear anything more from them.
