assessing
By Helen

Clip to ScrapBook
The pressure is on even in first grade. We do not have EOG's as such but the state now has a Math test and literacy expectations...I feel as if I am spending so much time assessing, that I don't have time to teach a skill before I have to assess it.
I have been teaching for 31 years. I have never seen the children under so much pressure 9teachers too). I don't know what is the answer.
We hear "developmentally appropriate" but then we are pushed to teach skills that our childrne are not yet ready for...and assess the result.
I see things in first grade curriculum that I never saw until I was in High School..and even some of it I never saw until college. Are we really getting ridiculous?
