You are doing the right thing so try not to let that gutless wonder of a principal get to you. I know that's easier said than done, but don't let this absolute bs play on your mind. You are a mandated reporter of abuse| of any kind that you may suspect a student is experiencing. As a former social worker, I can tell you that the ones who screamed the loudest were the very ones who were in fact perpetrating horrific abuse. I would strongly urge you to bring this matter to the attention of your union representative so that he/she can have a heads up on the situation. You are NOT doing anything wrong and | |
that jerk of an administrator does not have the right to make you feel that you are. This child is very definitely experiencing physical, emotional and God knows what other kinds of abuse. He needs servicing and, even if he is spouting the words of the adults of his family, that doesn't change the physical evidence that is all too visible.Document EVERYTHING and, in the future, refuse to meet with this parent without the presence of both the principal AND a union representative. You don't need this crap. Let us know how it goes and be comforted that you are trying to make the difference in this child's life that he so desperately needs.
