Trailblazers/Investigations
By Debbie

Clip to ScrapBook
Hi all,
Sorry this is late...I thought Trailblazers was a compromise between the traditional and transactional mathematics programs. I bought Investigations for the games and that it looks at math in a constructivist
way. I haven't actually used a series in years, I prefer well constructed meaningful/authentic problem solving. The Cognitively Guided Instruction book by Fennema and Carpenter has helped me put into words some of what I'd been doing with my kids and also fine tune the construction of problems for the various math groups. The games and investigations from Investigations build concepts
that aid in strategy development as the children are ready for them. I also like bits and pieces of Opening Eyes to Mathematics. None of these is expensive overall, because once you have the books, the kids use their math logs for recording. Best of luck all. ;-D
