No, I don't agree with that comment about parents-

How can a group of concerned parents be the problem? That doesn't make sense.

Just as a teacher has the right to fight for their rights, so does a parent. Apparently the math curriculum is not what the parents feel is
acceptable so isn't it a good sign that they are getting involved in the planning/selection process? As far as the underpants book, I don't know what this book is about but everyone deserves to have a say either in support or otherwise. It is a mistake to paint parents as the 'bad guys' when they bring up issues that need to be looked at. The real problem is the tendency to see inadequate
'fluffy' curriculum as progressive because it is the politically popular opinion. Parents as well as teachers know progessive, stimulating, intelligent text when they see it. My advice is to remember that valid input can come from many different sources.
