Clip to ScrapBook
I spent my first year teaching trying to keep up with paperwork. Then I learned about "File 13" AKA the trash. Sure you feel guilty about trashing work, but then you realize for your saanity that you can't grade every piece
of paperworkt he student do. I make sure to take 2 grades per subject each week so I have a good balance of work and assessments at the end of each grading period. Some people will probably jump all over me about trashing work, but I have a 1 year old and a husband. When I was spending all my time at school being overworked and underappreciated, it almost cost me my marriage! I
made a resolution to not take home papers to grade. I don't call parents from home. I get to work about 1 hour early and stay about 1 hour late each day. I sit down to grade papers during the day and have learned not to feel guilty about it. No one has said anything about it and the kids and parents like to get things back in a timely manner. I also have my kids grade a lot of their own papers to see instant results. It's about finding a way to manage your time, setting your priorities, organize your paperwork/plans, and keeping your sanity so you don't burn out after only a few years.
