This seems to be the direction most states are heading with certification. Here in Illinios we have 5 years before we have to be recertified. We have to set up a plan for how we will earn 120 CEUs in that time period.
It's pretty rough for me also. I teach in a Catholic school (Salary = $21,000 in 4th year). I have over $15,000 in loans still, a house payment, car payment, and 2 kids to clothe and feed. Our school only allows $200/year for professional development. I spent this in one workshop. Yes, that workshop was worth a lot of CEUs but I can't afford to pay for workshops at this point in my

life. The public schools in my area pay a lot more but I haven't been able to get my foot in the door. I live about 60 miles south of Chicago so if anyone knows of any openings in the area for next year, please e-mail me.
