I knew you taught in MS! So do I, and I have a child in my class that is passed on every year no matter what his grades are. I've talked to everyone, our sped director, principal, other teachers, they all tell me the same
thing. His mother refuses to have him tested for sped. This child can NOT do 5th grade work and I have to really watch him because he stole one of the other teacher's wallet. I feel like we are helping this child become a criminal. That's exactly where he's headed (he has several brothers in prison). There seems to be nothing I can do, and our school doesn't have the kind of money it would
take to take his mother to court for neglect. We've contacted DHS, but these cases get overlooked because of so many cases that involve children being raped by family members. (We have children that have a mom's first cousin as a daddy.) I really don't want to make MS look bad. There are so many of us that do not come from this kind of background and can not understand some of these people, but I really feel like it is so hard to educate the children of this state because their parents need it first. Am I the only one?
