That's amazing
By New 5th grade teacher

Clip to ScrapBook
I am shocked and amazed that any student would be permitted to have a knife of any kind in his possession without consequences. In any of the districts where I have worked, there is a zero tolerance policy in effect whereby
anything that can even remotely resembles a weapon (even items created out of other materials to look like weapons) would result in immediate confiscation with no return, a contact with the parent to require a meeting with the principal, and possible suspension or expulsion depending on the circumstances.

Even back when I was in 2nd grade (in the age of the dinosaurs), I had the experience

of having an older boy pull out a jack-knife in my presence while we were walking home from school. He was suspended for 3 days.

In this day and age where there are so many occurences of violent encounters in schools, I am appalled that the student you describe was allowed to have that knife. If he's carrying it to school at his young age, I shudder to think what he will believe is acceptable when he gets to high school.
