If you will scroll down this page, you will see a post for "Inside the Earth". You will see some activities posted by me. I too am starting this Unit tomorrow with my third graders. I'm starting with the Layers activities
that I posted. We will also get to volcanoes, the water cycle and clouds soon. I'll try to get my other ideas together and get back to you.

For Science I like to use "Graffiti". On chart
paper I write different headings. For ex. for my Clouds Unit I would post "water cycle",
"Cirrus" "Stratus", "Cumulus", "evaporation","con-densation", etc.). Group students into groups (3-4).

Each group starts out at a different chart paper. They write down or draw a picture of everything that they can think of pertaining to the heading. When my timer goes off, they switch to the next chart. They add to that chart, and so on until all groups have visited each one. (I usually let them take turns being the recorder so everyone gets a turn to write--I walk around to make sure everyone is participating). Then we go over each one and add anything missed. This is a great way to review for a test!
