I teach Gr. 3 and have had good luck with this strategy: I told one student a few weeks ago that if she kept forgetting to put capital letters at the beginning of a sentence, the sentence would get angry and march right off the page! I remind her to respect her sentences! It's a little joke we share, and it's working when nothing else did.
