Student teaching
By Debbie

Clip to ScrapBook
Hi Lucy,
I can understand your concerns...maybe this person is not an extrovert, she might find it difficult to extend a warm welcome to anyone! Not excusable, but someone with poor social skills might act that way.
This might be her first student teacher and she might be feeling just a little intimidated, or she just wants the kids to know that she's still the 'boss'. Who knows.
But you are PAYING for this student teaching experience. There will be very few mentors who fit the 'ideal teacher' mode, but if you do not mesh and have big philosophical differences, you might think about switching
placements. No one will look down on you for requesting another teacher (though you probably don't want to stay at the same school). OK I know it's radical, but you should have someone you look up to for guidance, as this will be the last time you'll probably be having this close supervision. Best of luck whatever you decide. We'll look forward to hearing more about your experiences, which hopefully will be more positive!!! ;-D And post or email if you need additional support. This site is wonderful that way.
