advice to the coop By Kath

Hi. I too just finished a 12 week long ST experience w/ a wonderful coop. Have your ST have their own "work" space that is theirs w/ supplies etc.. - if possible have her in before her st assignment begins to get familiar| with you or the classroom setup. Nothing is so difficult if you are a little prepared - but it's hard to take the kids to the bathroom if you don't know where it is. My teacher let me take on one subject a week until I had them all for 3 full weeks. The only complaint I had, which is small, is that I wish I could have had the kids by myself more too, especially since she added the third | | week to give me more experience. Even though she was wonderful it does provide a different atmosphere when there is only one teacher in room. My biggest plus was that I was never- especially in front of the class - treated as less than an equal. My questions were answered honestly even if the answer may not have been the "classroom" pc' jargon. Let's face it, we, as student teachers need to understand the reality of what is to come - and learn how to help our students to the best of our ability - plus more! Have a great time I'm sure it will be wonderful, mine was.
