Management Problems
By Suzanne

Clip to ScrapBook
I am sorry I don't have any help ... just sympathy. Personally, I am glad to be DONE with student teaching and on to my regular teaching career. Yeah, there's a LOT more crap to deal with now that I'm in charge, but it's
worth it to be THEIR TEACHER, from a management perspective, at least.

I student taught in sixth grade for one quarter. Those little brats (actually they were pretty big) KNEW I wasn't their regular teacher, and there wasn't anything I could do to convince them that I was just as much of an authority figure as their teacher was. They could even articulate the fact that they didn't

behave as well for me because I was a STUDENT teacher.

This is probably what is going on with your first graders. Though they can't articulate it as well as the sixth graders, they probably just don't think you're as important. (No offense to you, of course.) I had NO SUCCESS changing this situation with the sixth graders. I just toughed it out and was glad it was over.

It's frustrating that your master teacher can't give you a break or at least help you. What does she do with the kids? Has she told you? It seems like she's not being very understanding.
