mini planetariums
By A

Clip to ScrapBook
Yes, I have seen this project and one very similar where students make their own mini planetarium. Use aluminum foil and place a template of a constellation such as the Big Dipper on top of the foil. You can use a push pin to make the holes. It is easier to pierce by placing the paper pattern and the foil on top of a piece of foam board or cardboard. Then just punch through the dots of the constellation pattern. The foil piece can now be wrapped around a toilet paper tube and secured with tape or rubber band. When students hold the tube to a light they can view the constellation. (remember to make the pattern smaller than the diameter of the tube).
I'll check to see if I have the patterns at school if you are interested.
