Hi Dee, I did my student teachng a year ago. Before I met with my first cooperating teacher, I was given his home phone number and called him. We discussed some basic things about the students, etc. He then asked me what| subject was my favorite. I told him Reading/Literature. Once he heard that, he said that I could first take over that area. Eventually, of course, you need to take over each subject, but it's nice to be able to start with your favorite and the one that is the most comfortable for you. I was really grateful when my cooperating teacher gave me choices. I think you should discuss the matter | | with yours. I doubt there should be a problem. It's a whole new situation for you; I am sure your cooperating teacher wants you to feel as confident as possibe.Regarding your second question, I am not sure I have an answer, but I sympathize with you. I had one other student teacher at the school I was placed in and we got along fine, but to tell you in all honesty, there was a bit of competition going on between us. It wasn't intentional, but you could feel it, know what I mean? There you are, trying to make the best possible impression and you have someone else doing the same thing. Hopefully, you won't have too much contact with this other person. You will be so busy, you may not run into her that often. Anyway, you can't let her spoil your experience. Just concentrate on YOU and knock 'em dead !!! Best of luck!
