I have taught 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th, and 7th grades. I have students address me Mrs. Deroche (my last name). It is hard for some to pronounce and sometimes to even remember. However, I am a big believer in learning how to say a person's name correctly. It is one thing a person has that can't be taken away. My maiden name has been butchered all my life and I just think that it is important to call people by their correct name. I also think it makes students respect adults more and makes me (a 24 year old) feel as if I am their elder and not a friend.
