As a classroom teacher
By Cathy-Dee

Clip to ScrapBook
As a classroom teacher (and yes I did substitute teaching when I first started out as well), I don't see the problem with you wandering around the school. It would be a great way to get some new ideas, etc.,

I would first
make sure

- if it is a large school that the staff know who you are - teachers may question why you are wandering if they don't know who you are because of security reasons.

- I would avoid jumping into any situations - such as discipling a student who is in the hallway talking loudly, etc., as a teacher might be aware of this student or be on their way to deal with it themselves.

-

If nothing has been left for you to do during the prep time, then this would be a good way to use your time.

- If you are unsure, ask the Principal if it would be fine for you to walk around during the prep time or if there was something else you could do - this way you cover all the bases.
