bribery
By clara

Clip to ScrapBook
I too, hate bribery, but as a sub we do not have the advantage of having lots of time to gain their confidence and respect. I use the same trick you do and it works wonders. If I so much as make a move towards the board to
erase a point the whole class quiets and is reminded to keep on task. I do not need to beg or nag them one bit. When I don't happen to start the day with it, then find I need it, I stop and explain to the students that it seems to me that they are having a tough day. I tell them I want to help them have a better day so that I can write a letter to the teacher at the end of the day telling
her or him how wonderful everyone was. Then I explain the system of earning 15 points by 2:25 so that they can have 20 min of free classroom time. I list all of their options for that time (I bring fun things from home)They are always happy to have something to work towards.
