When I was a kid
By AM

Clip to ScrapBook
I never had any major issues like death to deal with as a child, thank goodness. However, I do remember thinking of the substitute as a person I might confide in even though I was normally very shy. In 9th grade I went
to the substitute about a personal problem I was having. I was so glad she was there because I would have never gone to the regular gym teacher about it. I was also glad she did not make a big deal out of it. I was also glad that I never saw her again.

I think my story is relevant only because as I was reading your post I was thinking that maybe that student did not want you to make

a big deal about it but thought you might be able to help. I know we think that sending students to the counselor is the answer and legally we don't have a choice sometimes, but really if they need to talk I don't think it always has to be a counselor. I think it is easier to talk sometimes if the issue is not made into a major thing.

Obviously I am not aware of all the details and such but I thought I would share my own personal experience.
