And sometimes it just comes down to time. Why was this teacher away - was she sick? I know when I'm writing up plans, sometimes it is hard to think of every little detail so if I have an aide in the room I'm expecting them to help keep things going smoothly too. You might want to mention to the Principal on a casual note that you would have liked to have had a copy of the discipline plan you heard about so that you were following the same plan as well. Sometimes we just forget to inform. As far as the aide helping to keep kids quiet, etc., it may be what happens naturally in the room between the aide and the teacher. I don't think it was necessarily a power trip on the part of the aide. In my classrooms if I have an aide, they are treated as a teacher and I expect my kids to listen to them as well as myself. I do like it when they catch the kids I miss because I'm working with a small group or one-on-one.
