I give out treats at the end of the day when there is about five minutes left. Sometimes I give candy (a few skittles, more for older kids less for younger--I can usually get away with 2 for first and second grade and 5| for 5th grade). I also give out starbursts (just one each). I also got a great idea from this sight about an award that I made at home. I bought colored card stock ($5.00) and printed a form on my computer that said "_______(fill in the name of teacher and grade on first line)-(Next line)For good behavior while ________(teacher's name) was away" I also have a spot for my name and | | the date. I have the white computer paper glued onto colored card stock. The white paper is about 4 x 6 and the colored card stock is a bit bigger. I used those scissors that make the fancy designs to cut the card stock around the white paper. Then I glued that onto a normal sized piece of card stock of a different color. It makes for a professional looking award. I have found that if I "sell" the award I can get them to think it is better than candy. I would rather give that than candy anyway. At first I thought they would think it was dumb but they like it and are proud of it. I really think it makes the teachers feel good too. Plus, it has my name on it so that is a good marketing strategy. HA.
