Eric,

All of the K classes I've sub'd for - the teacher has a very strict schedule of activities, duties (milk, line leader, hand-out papers, etc.); they may start the day with a calendar, weather, # of days of school, etc.

I've learned to always get the lay of the land in the room, particularly if you have not sub'd there before. These kids like routine and this would not be the class to do your own thing!

Also, identify one or two students, these are your helpers. Announce that to class. This may avoid many of them running to you about teacher does it this way, he/she is the leader, etc.

Above all, just have fun. Those little ones can be so giving and I always count my success by the little hugs I get at end of day.

Ken
