The other active thread now raises a point - it would be great if several of the seasoned teachers could jump on this board and give us some good guidance on what they look for in subs. I have one 1st grade teacher
I've discovered that a bit of "bouncing around" by the kids seems to go along with them enjoying the class, you, etc. I think there is a fine line between this level of excitement and an out-of-control scene. Based on my experiences (and affirmations from this and several other k-3 teachers) I think some of this excitement is just fine. I've learned to "go with the flow" as well. If the kids are excited, bouncing a bit, having fun and learning then there is nothing wrong with the picture! With the little ones I also try to get outside with them at least 1 recess; they love the extra attention. I always tell them that I can do this because I do not have the prep. time their teacher has so can free up some time to have fun with them. Best, Ken in Wisconsin
