alternative certification

In my experience, alternative certification means being certified without going thru the traditional 4yr education program. I was certified in TX. It took about 18 mnths and included my first year of teaching as an intern. I looked at the web site and most of the alternatives seem to be nonrenewable so I'm not sure how much good this would be to you.
