using those "bad" words
By Melissa

Clip to ScrapBook
I think that if you never use the words, they won't accidentally slip out when you shouldn't use them. One thing they told us when we were going through teacher training in college was that if we used those words, we should eliminate them altogether from our vocabulary. By doing this, we won't accidentally use them when we shouldn't.

Along those same lines: We were reading a story in a paperback novel which is actually owned by the school. The novel is Maniac Magee, and it uses words which the kids recognized as "bad." I helped them realize that the characters should not have used the words.
