My thoughts

Clip to ScrapBook
I am guessing that the only reason you were not left with lesson plans or materials is that there was a student teacher in the room who probably is in control of the class everyday. I know I did my student teaching last
semester and, because I taught the students everyday, was in charge when the teacher was out too. Unfortunately, it is hard to sub in a room with a student teacher because there is not much for you to do. I have never subbed for a teacher who did not at least leave a plan book. Usually teachers will leave a note detailing the days activities and relevant materials. I do not have a "bag
of tricks" myself, but have read that other subs do. If you want to put one together, I would suggest going to a teacher's store and buying a book of puzzles or other fun activities to use as extra work. You can also find many online to print out. Other suggestions to keep on hand-stickers (for younger grades), candy, or other rewards. Hope this is helpful. Email me if you have any other questions.
