Positive Approach
By Misty

Clip to ScrapBook
I only sub K-3 so that's all I can help you with. I made up some little tickets (points work well too) and if the kids are doing what I ask, then they get a ticket or point. At the end of the day, they can leave a few minutes
early or choose a prize or get to be door monitor, something that kids love. I usually don't go into a classroom with a lot of stuff so you can do this totally unprepared. For one prize I drew a picture during art time and the kids (1st grade) were ecstatic to get that prize! Even had kids crying because they didn't get it!! Once I had a rowdy first grade class and all I did was
cut little squares of paper and drew stars on them. They love it and when they see their friends get a ticket, they start behaving so they can have one too! That way, I'm a "cool sub" rather than a mean one. And I always let them know that I can and will take tickets for misbehavior!
