Give it another try!
By Amy

Clip to ScrapBook
Frustrated-I also felt a bit frustrated the first time I subbed in a Kindergarden class. I have since subbed in many K classes and have learned to approach it with a different mindset than other grades. The children do
tend to do a lot of tattling and talking, but I've found what works for me is to let them know what I expect. I always try to find one or two students who are listening and sitting nicely and point them out to the rest of the class: "I really like how nicely Suzie and Tommy are sitting. They're facing me and listening the way that they should be." I usually find that the other students
start listening and sitting nicely as well so that I'll compliment them. I also tell them what behavior I like. I let them know that I only choose helpers who are not calling out or talking to their friends. I generally find that if children know your expectations they will try their best to comply. Don't hesitate to constantly remind them. My suggestion is that you give it another try. After all of my experiences I find that Kindergarden is actually a very nice age to sub for.
