Do subs get jobs?
By Carolyn

Clip to ScrapBook
I think it depends upon the district in which you work. Where I worked in PA, there were four disticts in my county. One district claimed to hire subs. Indeed, they did interview any sub for a job. They didn't always
hire the subs they interview, but they did hire some of them. Another district had the reputation for mostly hiring sons and daughters of established teachers in the district. I knew I could sub there for twenty years and never get a job there because I didn't graduate from the district, and I didn't have parents who taught there. The third district hired some subs who were good brown-nosers.
This included daily and long-term subs. I never really had much contact with the fourth district. All four districts seemed to like to hire student teachers who had served as student teachers at their schools.

My advice is to ask around. What do they seem to do in the district where you work?
