Michelle By What I did

I graduated in December of 1990. I was adamant that I was going to teach kindergarten and certainly NEVER anything above 3rd even in resource. Well, there were no jobs available and since I though food and housing were| important, I had to give in. I took a self contained 7th-9th grade class with behavior problems. It was GREAT!! Oh, don't get me wrong, it was the hardes thing I have ever done. But, I found I really enjoyed that age group. Since then, I have taught everything from mild LD to profoundly multiply handicapped, from preschool to seniors, and from full inclusion to self-contained. Each | | position has had it benefits and its trials. Each has taught me more than I can say. If you can do this short term, you might want to go for it. Let them know that you really want younger kids but you are willing to try this for the remainder of the year. Even if you don't decided to stay, you may learn a few things along the way. PATIENCE will certainly be at the top of the list no matter where you start.
