You also seem to imply that the parents are not cooperating; please be aware that therapists who understand the proper treatment for selective mutism are exceedingly rare. The parents may well be "looking into" treatment but having difficulty finding a qualified doctor. You might want to check into what resources are available to help them. Your school psychologist may be able to offer some referrals, or if there is a university nearby you can start there. They will need to find a psychologist, psychiatrist or clinical social worker with experience in treating anxiety disorders in children. Please visit the website referenced above, and encourage the parents to do so as well. Often the key to successful treatment is helping parents and teachers understand selective mutism.
