The Excent computer program
By sp.ed.

is what our system uses. In my opinion it is not a very "intuitive" program. By that I mean it's kind of static. You cannot move easily between sections. There are also screens within screens so it's hard to look at the
big picture and easy to inadvertently omit a section.

I do not like the progress report section because you can only see and report on one objective at a time which means you are flashing back and forth between the objective page and the progress noted page which becomes very annoying to my eyes when there are many objectives to evaluate---endless rounds of--click --flash--popup screen--click--flash--popup

screen. In my opinion it could be alittle more user friendly.

Additionally, our school system never provided the special education teachers with a "sample" final version so the first year we used the program there was no way to know if the final document contained all necessary sections and was in compliance.

There were some gliches in the program initially and they were very annoying. Updated versions have been installed. We've had the program a few years now and fortunately haven't had the frustration of losing info. on the disks. Also helpful is the fact that at my school each special educator has his/her own computer station so information can be saved on the hard drive.

It isn't perfect and there is room for software improvemnt but all in all I think I prefer typing over handwriting the IEPs.
