My grade level partner referred to one of her students with special needs as a 'downs child' in front of that child's parents. The parents were so upset that they pulled the child out of the school. This meant the loss of funding money, and the T.A. who worked in that classroom lost her job. The money for the T.A. came from the child with downs Syndrome special funding money. Yet, the T.A. was also working with other Students with special needs in the room.
I agree with Susan...You need to watch your words.!
