Parental expectations
By Pam

Clip to ScrapBook
As a special ed teacher I feel the best way to deal with parental expectations is to be very empathetic to the parents. First off I cannot imagine what it would be like to walk in their shoes. I always always always always focus on what the children can do as opposed to what they can't and it helps parents to build on the strengths rather than focusing on what they cannot do. This is the way I approach my present ed levels in my IEP'S I write them in a positive tone again FOCUSING ON WHAT THEY CAN DO. So many people focus on what these students cannot do. When you sit down sometimes it is amazing at what these students can do. Hope this helps.
