picture clues

Clip to ScrapBook
Perhaps you could put picture clues on the words they are confusing and/or highlight tricky letters with a different color or something. For example, in my school, all of the 5 Ws are labeled with a question mark AND a picture-- clock for when, person's head for who, etc. I also use picture clues for homonyms, which really helps my 3rd grade special ed students with tricky words like TO TOO and TWO. Perhaps you could do something similar.
