Clip to ScrapBook
When I taught 8th grade (self contained LD). I used newspapers with my class. Their reading levels were grade 4-6. I read the newspaper myself first and then created a newspaper search. It included questions like: who wrote
the article on XXX? Or what is the horoscope for Aries? etc. It gave them a chance to become familiar with the different parts of the paper.

I also selected one article each day to discuss. I wrote one sentence summarizing the article, the students copied it off the overhead in a notebook. Then we would discuss the aricle and it's importance. On Fridays I would give an assessment

on the weeks news. It was a fill-in- the-blank test missing two words in each sentence. I had a word bank also.

My students seemed to like it, I'm not sure if you could use this with yours, but adapt as necessary. Any questions-just ask. Hope I could help.
