Clip to ScrapBook
I have 15 years experience in special ed. I currently teach resource in an elementary school. Right now my biggest complaint is lack of support from general ed teachers. They are overworked and overwhelmed just by the
numbers in their class. So they just want the special ed children out of the class. They are reluctant to make suggested modifications because it is one more thing to do. They want students tested, made eligible, and serviced by next week. Right now our next child study team opening is in May. I agree we need a special ed secretary for all the paperwork that is constantly changing.
I have 30 minutes a week for prep/testing time. Our classload is by numbers but the powers that be don't take into consideration the severity of the children's needs. I have some children over 50% of the day.At meetings teachers are saying how great it would be for this child to have 1:1 help. Where is that? Not in my program where I am juggling 7-9 children at once all doing something different/ 1:1 is a fallacy!!!
