DOL
By pjm

Clip to ScrapBook
Hi
Well, I do use the book exactly as presented however, I don't necessarily use the grade level. For example my 3rd graders just began the 2nd grade level right after Christmas break. Prior to that they had been doing
the 1st grade level. My 2nd grader is on the 1st grade level.

Here's what I do:
I write the sentences on the board as presented in the book. I have made up for all of my kids little DOL folders with pages stapled in for them to copy the sentence on. They copy and correct and turn in. Either my aide or myself go over the sentences and if correct we star them if not we bring

the child over for one on one instruction or sometimes we just give clues. For example we've been working on contractions for a good long time now so we'll say there's a contraction word in this sentence and every contraction needs a ______
and the child hopefully says apostrophe...and then we send them back to find the word and fix it. The next morming we correct the sentences on the board together. You wouldn't have to wait until the next day that's just what works best in our schedule. Each Friday I make a copy of the sentences that we did during the week and it becomes a DOL test. My kids are consistantly getting 80% and above so I think we're being successful.

Did that help? If you have any other questions I'll be happy to answer them. By the way we also do Daily Math, geography and anologies.
