Clip to ScrapBook
I taught for a year in England and it sounds a lot like what you are trying. Personally, I loved it. Every six weeks we had a week-long "half-term break" which was badly needed for teachers and kids to recover. Christmas was the exception because it was two weeks. Then we finished the school year at the end of July and still had six weeks of summer. I found that a few extra weeks of school in July is worth having the extra breaks in the school year. September to December is an exhausting 4 months and the kids and teachers start to wear down. I found the six week half terms a nice natural break for teaching units and curriculum strands. I could actually plan better in six week blocks. Hope it works out for you.
